doc severinsen is an accomplished american jazz/pop trumpet player, and as a band leader gained considerable notoriety on the tonight show with johnny carson. like most musicians in the 70s, doc took his shot at the disco and funk sounds of the time, gathered stellar musicians, and released impeccably sounding works. two of these cuts, be with you and shine on me are featured on this release. harvey s unfailing magic touch has yielded two dj-friendly edits with a lot of punch and galactic energy, yet with a velvet undertone. staying true to the mission, the label took great care throughout the production process in order to preserve the quality of the original recordings.

as earlier compilations of danza meccanica have taught us, italy gave birth to a disproportionate number of synth-pop, new wave and electronic acts in the 80s. mannequin goes deeper into the italian new wave archelogical research with a killer 10 tracks selection of carmody. picking their name from a science fiction novel titled dimension of miracles by robert sheckley, carmody were coming from torino, as their pairs monuments and chromagain. started as a duo (alberto ramella and andrea lesmo) and later a trio with max casacci joining in as a guitar player, carmody recorded from 1981 to 1985 and issued three incredibly rare demo tapes. sleep on mirrors compiles the best tracks from those tapes, bringing you one of the most peculiar 80s minimal synth music coming out of italy

with the departing comfort ep, clr artist drumcell has put together a heavyweight remix package for one of the tracks from his debut long-player sleep complex. after receiving raving reviews and massive support in the international scene, the californian dj/producer has invited some of todays most intriguing techno artists to create their own version of his outstanding composition.

mulen marks the arrival of its second vinyl with the release aloft from tish. this kiev-based lady is definitely seen as a key player in the ukrainian underground. the original mix of aloft is stripped-down vogue techno with a funky baseline and tick-tock percussion. the track is flashing out the skippy, atmospheric style one might call mulen s signature sound. under number two we have samples of silence where tish explores possibilities of rhythm and space. the track progresses through a clean path of precision drums to a warmer meditative lead. on the b-side cadenza native valentino kanzyani plugs 9 minute remix of the titled aloft. quoting a minimal running techno, kanzyani stockpile some much-needed tension while keeping the arrangement uncluttered. his hypnotic groove beneath a blunted and ponderous baseline deliver us a darker, more cosmic vibe.

carl craig needs no introduction, he has been at the forefront of the international techno scene for over 20 years and has amassed a truly enviable back catalog of releases utilizing various pseudonyms and collaborating with many different artists during his stellar career. one of the detroit natives most enduring and popular guises has been his paperclip people project which has been active since 1991. country boy goes dub was originally released in 1996 on the seminal paperclip people long-player the secret tapes of dr.eich. its blend of samples, metallic drum machines, 808s, guitar loops and serious dubwise tendencies made it stand out instantly. as with a lot of craigs legendary productions it had that otherworldly swing, an incessant groove and a melding of various styles, sounds and influences informing its spirit.
